A pillar of the Catholic church is the education of the faithful. This is an ongoing, lifelong process that includes formal education, private reflections, group study of scripture, and other means. St. Mary has a full Religious Education program to provide instructions to all members of the community. This area of our website is devoted to the formal education for children, ages preschool through Confirmation. Please visit the Community area of our site for other educational opportunities to grow your faith. Final Retreat Option for 2nd Year Students Sunday, May 6th, starting with the 8:30AM Mass, is the final chance to attend a make-up retreat here. The retreat should end by 11:30 AM. Contact this office to sign-up, at #203-877-5874. Confirmation Paperwork 2nd Year Students need to pick up their Confirmation paperwork in the Religious Education Office, preferably Monday - Thursday between 3:00 and 7:00PM. The included Confirmation Application Form must be returned to this office by April 2, 2012 with the Sponsor Certificate, 2nd Year Service Record statement and Saint Report ATTACHED. Religious Ed Registration Forms Registration forms for this year's Religious Ed. program are now available online (below) and are also available at the back porch of the rectory. Forms will also be mailed to returning families over the next week. Make sure to read ALL the forms that apply! Religious Education Staffing Teachers for the Religious Education Program are all volunteers; if you are interested in teaching or learning more about participating in this program, please contact the Director, Sue Marra 203-877-5874. [ more ] Current Class Schedule Registration letters are mailed in June to all families registered in the Religious Education and Confirmation Programs. Families with no children enrolled this year, should contact the Religious Education office at 203-877-5874. The updated 2011-2012 calendar will be available some time in August. Religious Education and Confirmation forms are available 24/7 on the rear porch of the rectory in appropriately marked folders on the bookshelf by the door. If you know any families with their 1st born entering 1st grade in a non-Catholic school, please encourage them to call to register during the summer. The following is the current schedule of classes for the St. Mary Religious Education program meeting in St. Mary School unless otherwise noted. Students may not swap classes without the express permission of the Director of Religious Education. [ more ] First Holy Communion Information First Holy Communion Mass general information: [ more ] High School Confirmation Program Our formal Confirmation Preparation Program begins in high school and continues for two years, according to the recommendations of the Hartford Archdiocese. Classes meet only once per month from September to May. The Confirmation Mass is jointly scheduled in late May or early June by the Archbishop's Office and our parish. The April/May schedule is posted below. Please remember there are no more mailings. Second year students who have not yet attended a retreat, please see the notice at the top of this page. Students who have been attending Religious Education classes through the 8th grade and the 8th grade St. Mary School students, whose families are parishioners of this parish, are automatically sent a Confirmation Registration Form in June of their 8th grade year. Confirmation Service and Program Information All students are required to account for twenty-four (24) hours of service to others for each of the two years of the program. There are many service opportunities within our parish, some that are geared to individuals and others to groups.
